With more than 30 years of experience, our staff knows how to set the stage for a romantic bed and breakfast. Alice’s Dowry Bed & Breakfast has even been featured as a New York Newsday Inn of the Week. Situated in tranquil Cortland County, in the Finger Lakes area of New York, you’ll want to keep coming back as soon as you leave.

Introduction to Our B & B

This building was given to Alice from her father in 1876— a pretty nice wedding present, don’t you think? Best of all, it remains as grand as the day Dr. Nelson Barnes carried Alice across the threshold of the front door.

Along the way, Alice’s descendants occupied the home, even entertained Franklin Delano Roosevelt while he was governor of New York. The building has also been awarded the honor of being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You will truly be staying in the building’s guest house, as the owners live in their own private quarters in the back of the home.

Cincinnatus, just minutes from I-81, is tucked in the Finger Lakes Region near Cortland, with Syracuse to the north, Binghamton to the south, Ithaca to the west, and Norwich to the east. It’s a convenient distance from area colleges, Whitney Point Lake, the Finger Lakes Trail, and Skaneateles Lake. Ours is a world of scenic landscapes and country roads where the stars light your way home.

Enter through the porch door, and step into the common room and front parlor. Here you only just begin to feel the warmth of Alice’s Dowry. The cozy interior is very private, filled with antiques and plenty of whimsical charm! Located in the Common room you will find a Courtesy phone and guest fridge, with complimentary beverages and snacks. The curved staircase, sun porch, and guest bedrooms (with private baths, fireplaces, and other amenities) are all part of Alice’s Dowry experience.

Adjacent to Alice’s Dowry is Heritage Hall, a local historic landmark. There is also the former Congregational church that is used for weddings. The inn sits on more than an acre of landscaped grounds with reflective ponds and sitting areas for outside weddings or receptions. Four quaint rooms await the bridal party or the happy honeymooners.
