The Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung recently released the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+, two flagship phones that have set out to set the standard for smartphone use and benchmarks. In this article, well be having a look at the Samsung S9. The Galaxy S9 rocks the same infinity display with smaller bezels style its predecessor, the Galaxy S8 introduced just last year. However, there is a small change to the design when it comes to the S9. Its back now has a fingerprint sensor sitting right below the camera lens and not to the side to which is a welcome change as it makes it easier to lock and unlock the phone. With that being said, here is a look at some of the phones features.

The American version of the Samsung S9 will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which is much faster compared to the Snapdragon 835 chip used last year.

Fingerprint Scanner

One of the main complaints people had with the Galaxy S8 line was the fingerprint readersplacement. To make more room for the bigger display, the company now uses, designers moved the sensor to the phones back. But instead of putting it in the middle of the phoneâs back as most competitors do, they placed it up high, right next to the camera. With the S9, however, they now have placed it closer to the middle of the back, right underneath the phones camera.

Facial recognition

Samsung has been using both iris-scanning and facial technology on their phones for some time now; however, it has not been as complex or powerful as ApplesFace ID. With the S9, they have now incorporated Intelligent Scan  a new feature that uses both facial recognition and iris scanning to unlock the devices and is set to rival Apples Face ID.

The S9 boasts a super-speed and super slow-mo mode, dual-pixel, 12Mp camera with two apertures  f1.5 and f2.4. Switching between apertures automatic, and depends on the amount of ambient light available. It is worth noting that the S9+ is the only model with dual cameras on the back. One camera is for capturing wide-angle photos using a dual aperture module and the other is a 12Mp telephoto lens.

Software Improvements

The S9 line now comes with a few new software upgrades. The OS, Android 8.0 Oreo is installed out-of-the-box. At the same time, it now features AR Emoji, a feature that users can use to create 2D images of themselves, and uses the front-facing camera and sensors to mimic different facial expressions that can be shared with friends and family through messaging apps.

Official Specs

The S9 features a 5.8 Quad HD Super-AMOLED display and is 147.7mm x 68.7mm x 8.5mm in size. The 163g phone has a 4GB internal memory and 64GBs of storage. Its 3,000mAh battery is not that big but it should get the job done quite well. The Galaxy S9 comes laden with sensors including an Iris sensor, fingerprint sensor, pressure sensor, gyro sensor, proximity sensor, Hall sensor, RGB Light sensor, HR sensor amongst others. The phone supports GSM, CDMA, HSPA, EVDO, and LTE. The phone costs about $720 but the prices may vary depending on where you purchase one.
